Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Sunday appealed to Sri Vidyaprasanna Tirtha, seer of Subrahmanya Mutt at Kukke Subrahmanya, to withdraw his fast. Speaking to reporters after attending a function organised by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Union here, he said that the issues raised by the seer could be addressed through talks.
The seer started his protest on Saturday following denial of water from Kannadi Hole, a stream flowing in the Subrahmanya reserve forest area. The Forest Department cut the water supply on Friday following a petition by members of Subrahmanya Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedike accusing the mutt of illegally drawing water from the stream.
The seer told The Hindu on Sunday that denial of water was a flashpoint in a series of incidents that interfered with the daily functioning of the mutt.
