TRICHY: The KK Nagar police here have registered two cases against unknown people for cheating a couple on the promise of arranging a loan from a private finance company.

S Alagumuthu, 45, of Ayyappa Nagar near KK Nagar and his wife, A Dhanalakshmi, 40, lodged separate complaints against an anonymous caller. The person who made the call had promised to arrange loans -- Rs 10 lakh each -- from a famous finance company.

The caller wanted to know their bank account numbers, debit card numbers and PINs. The couple revealed the details, and the caller withdrew Rs 40,000 each from the accounts. Soon, the couple realised that they had been duped.

The incident happened on September 29. But the couple lodged a police complaint only on October 14.

The two incidents came to light a day after the Trichy city police busted a Chennai-based online cheating network.
