Michel active, Brown not
Sony Michel (knee), Rob Gronkowski (ankle) and Chris Hogan (thigh) will all play for the Patriots on Sunday. The three offensive pieces were questionable heading into Sunday’s game after being limited this past week, but are active.
That’s the good news. The Patriots, however, will be without a couple of defensive pieces against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Malcolm Brown is inactive after suffering a knee injury last week against the Indianapolis Colts. The 24-year-old has started all five games for the Patriots this year. He has 10 tackles. Brown has been a mainstay at defensive tackle since the Patriots drafted him in the first round in 2015.
The Patriots are also without linebacker John Simon. Like Brown, Simon left last week’s game against the Colts. He suffered a shoulder injury. Simon had a solid debut for the Patriots, in Week 4, finishing with five tackles and sack against Miami. With Simon out, Derek Rivers is active for just the second time this season.
The Patriots are getting some defensive help back as Eric Rowe returns. Rowe Missed the last three games due to a groin injury. The cornerback started the first two games for the Patriots this season. With Rowe back, rookie J.C. Jackson is a healthy scratch.
Also inactive for the Patriots is Keionta Davis, Geneo Grissom, Cole Croston and Ted Karras.
Welcome to Gillette Stadium
Welcome to Gillette Stadium where the Patriots will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in their Week 6 matchup.
The Chiefs come to Foxboro red hot with a 5-0 record. The Patriots, meanwhile, stand at 3-2 after winning their last two games. Sunday marks the second straight primetime game for the Patriots. The team has a total of four primetime games in five weeks.
Coming into this matchup, the Patriots are relatively healthy. The team didn’t rule out anyone on Friday, but had nine players listed as questionable – Malcolm Brown (knee), Josh Gordon (hamstring), Geneo Grissom (ankle), Rob Gronkowski (ankle), Chris Hogan (thigh), Sony Michel (knee), Eric Rowe (groin), Danny Shelton (elbow) and John Simon (shoulder).
The Chiefs, however, are expected to be without a couple of their starting defensive players. Safety Eric Murray (ankle) was ruled out on Friday while Pro Bowl safety Eric Berry (heel) and Pro Bowl edge rusher Justin Houston (hamstring) are both listed as doubtful. The Chiefs also ruled out return man/receiver De’Anthony Thomas, who fractured his leg last week.
