Teen Pizza Skulls and Halloween Candy: Oct. 23 from 5:30 - 7:30 All the fixings to make your own pizza skull will be provided. While you are waiting for it to cook to all it's yummy yumminess, you will be able to make Halloween solid chocolate candies. Eat your skulls while your candy hardens, then its time for dessert. Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. is the annual Pumpkin Painting night. Come hear not-so spooky stories, songs, enjoy snacks – and of course paint a pumpkin. Participants may bring their own pumpkin or purchase one for $3 – please call ahead to let us know if you need a pumpkin. Costumes encouraged but not required.

Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m., STEAM at the Library with Coding for Kids. Come down for simple activities, games and snacks. Recommended for ages 4 and up. No registration required.

Saturday, Oct. 27 at 10:30 a.m., Lori Belche of Enlightenings will present a program titled Quantum Healing, Telepathy and Telekinesis: Harnessing your Abilities. This is an interactive demonstration utilizing the quantum healing energy field as well as how to use the field to retrieve other information. Participants will make a telekinesis enhancer to practice increasing their own innate abilities. This is an adult program but teenagers 14 and up are invited to attend. Enrollment is limited, so please call the library to sign up.

Tuesday, Oct. 30, Roger Tincknell presents Halloween Stories and Songs. This playful and highly interactive program includes traditional, contemporary and original “no-too-scary” Halloween songs, stories, seasonal songs, singing games and family sing-a-longs. Costumes encouraged but not required. Appropriate for all ages. No registration is required.

Finally stop by the library on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 3 to 8 p.m., to trick-or-treat. Free walk-in crafts and gift bags.

SWANSEA

The Swansea Public Library announces its second annual "Haunted Library" on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 21 from 2 to 5 p.m.  This is a free event for all ages with crafts and games and tours of the very frightening  haunted library. Costumes are encouraged, and there will be treat bags for children under 12.

The Swansea Public Library loves Star Wars and several events are taking place in October. The Star Wars Fan Fiction & Art contest is taking place for ages 14 and up. Stories and art must include one character from any Star Wars movie, book, comic, graphic novel or cartoon. Art and stories must be submitted by Saturday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. For children up to 12 the Star Wars Coloring Contest has begun. Pick up coloring pages at the library and drop off by Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. On Oct. 27 there will be a special Star Wars Storytime with crafts and treats. Come as your favorite Star War character. Story hour takes place at 10:30 a.m.

October is the month to join a book club and the Swansea Public Library has a book club for you. Stop by the library to learn more. The library is looking for new members for the YA for Grown-ups Book Club, the Non-Fiction Book Club: “Nothing but the Truth” as well as the Better Living Book Club. (Nothing but the Truth is currently an online book club through GoodReads)

The Brown Bag Book Club meets the third Friday of each month. This is a general fiction group that meets and eats, reads and talks about different books. Bring your lunch and meet at noon in the stacks. October’s selection is The Good Goodbye by Carla Buckley and copies are available at the library. The next meeting is Oct. 19. Sign up today.

Each Wednesday morning the Walk and Talk book club meets to enjoy a walk in Swansea Village and discuss books. This group meets every Wednesday at 9 a.m. weather permitting.

The Kidlit Book Club for adults will meet on Friday mornings from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Adults will read a wide range of books written for children from ages 2-12.  Sign up at the library today.

The 9th Annual Spooky Story Contest Spook Us Silly: A Ghoulish, Ghastly, Ghostly Story Contest will take place during the month of October concluding on Oct. 31. Enter and write the spookiest, scariest short story you can think of (minimum 500 words). Stories must take place in the eerie and frightening town of Swansea. Three categories for the writing contest are: Goblins ages 7-8; Ghouls ages 9-11; Ghosts ages 12-14.  Entry forms are available at the Swansea Public Library. All stories must be received by 5 p.m. on Oct. 31. Bring your typed story to the Swansea Public Library or email to swanseayouthservices@gmail.com. The Union Public Library Book Club meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. at Union, 3832 Main Road. This month's selection is "Girl Waits with Gun " by Amy Stewart. Copies of the book are now available at Union Library during regular business hours on Tuesdays between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.. All are welcome to join in the discussion.

A Falling Leaves Tea will be held at Union Public Library, 3832 Main Road, on Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. All are welcome to visit and enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the library. Light refreshments will be served.

Halloween's Happening at Union Public Library, 3832 Main Road, a day early on Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Children and their families are invited to join in a costume parade, story time, snack time and pumpkin decorating. Partners Village Store and Kitchen, 865 Main Road, announces its fall children's reading circle will run through Dec. 6. Join Partners every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for an hour of stories and fun activities geared toward preschool children. Miss Joan has some wonderful stories planned and will lead a theme based arts and crafts activity after the story. Snack will also be provided. A guardian must accompany the child. This is a free event and registration is not required.
