LUDHIANA: Opposing an alleged sexual act of a 75-year-old doctor landed a 33-year-old operation theatre helper in the hospital.

Fuming over the incident, the woman’s husband and his accomplice allegedly beat up the doctor, who is now undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The incident happened on Thursday when the doctor allegedly first asked her to hug him and then forcibly made her to sit on his lap. When she tried to save herself, the doctor allegedly thrashed her brutally. The doctor allegedly slapped and pulled her hair and even tried to tear her clothes. Soon after the alleged incident, she called up her family members who informed the police.

The Jagraon police on Friday evening booked the doctor under Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and started further action.

In her complaint to the police, the woman claimed that on Thursday, the doctor misbehaved with her after calling her to his cabin when she was getting the dressing of a patient done at around 11.45 am in the hospital.

Police said when complainant’s husband came to know about the incident, he rushed to the hospital with two other persons and beat up the doctor with a wooden rod. “The doctor has suffered four assault injuries and is also admitted to the hospital,” said ASI Sukhdev Singh, investigating officer of the case.

He said the CCTV camera was installed outside the room of the doctor. They added that the complainant was seen entering the cabin of the doctor. Police said that the men who had attacked the doctor after the incident have been captured in CCTV camera and were being identified.

The complainant, who suffered injuries, has been admitted to the hospital. Police have started a probe into the incident after recording her statement. “We will also record the statement of the doctor about the incident and assault, following which we will take further action,” said a police official.
