AHMEDABAD: City police and its decoy squads — woman cops dressed up in traditional dresses — have so far arrested 39 eve-teasers from different places, including garba venues, since the first day of Navratri festival. Fourteen persons were arrested on Saturday night.
Sector-2 police, during its vehicle-checking drive, arrested 116 persons in inebriated condition and 57 for driving vehicles after consuming intoxicating substances. “Three were booked after Indian Made Foreign Liqour (IMFL) were found from them,” said additional commissioner of police, sector-2, Ashok Yadav.
Yadav added that they collected a fine of Rs 5,45,375 from different vehicle drivers under different sections of the motor vehicle act. “We also seized a few vehicles for want of proper documents,” he said.
In-charge deputy commissioner of police, woman cell, Panna Momaya, said that two decoy teams, 10 teams of woman helpline 181, and five teams formed under the Suraksha Setu initiative nabbed 14 eve-teasers.
“We will continue our vigil at different areas including food bazaars and garba venues and city streets to nab eve-teasers,” added Momaya.
