You’ll Be Able To Purchase A Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered, But There’s A Catch

Those looking to get behind the wheel of a new Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered will only be able to do so by subscribing through the Care by Volvo service.

This means that customers can’t actually buy the performance saloon outright, just lease it through Volvo’s service. This was initially the case with the Polestar 1, too, but the Swedish marque has since decided to sell the 1 outright as well.

Speaking to Autoblog about why the S60 Polestar Engineered is only offered through Care by Volvo, the car manufacturer said that initial production of the vehicle will be extremely limited. Moreover, the subscription is obviously a good way to promote Care by Volvo.

However, customers will be able to purchase the vehicle after all – but it won’t be a brand new car.

Those who subscribe won’t get to keep the S60 Polestar Engineered and will eventually have to return it to the dealer when the subscription ends. Dealerships will then be able to resell them as used cars or send them to auctions.

Just 20 examples of the 2019MY S60 Polestar Engineered will find their way to U.S. shores. According to a Volvo spokesperson, additional S60s will be offered in upcoming model years. As the numbers increase, it’s also possible that different ownership models will be introduced, perhaps including the option to buy a new one.

Powering the S60 Polestar Engineered is a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a twincharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a rear-mounted electric motor. This powertrain delivers 415 hp and 494 lb-ft of torque and is mated with an all-wheel drive system.
