Russian opposition leader Navalny freed from jail, again

ROUGH CUT.

NO REPORTER NARRATION.

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was released on Sunday (October 14) after 20 days in jail where he was held on charges of staging an illegal protest last month.

Navalny had been detained since September 24 when he was arrested almost immediately after finishing a previous incarceration.

That was a 30-day stint for planning an unauthorized demonstration back in January.

His supporters claim the detention was meant to sideline him at a time of growing discontent over unpopular government reforms. The Kremlin's plan to raise the retirement age has seen thousands of Russians take to the streets.
