2019 Mercedes S-Class Coupe: Good Enough To Challenge A Bentley Continental GT?

When it revamped its flagship last year, Mercedes didn’t feel the need to change many things on the S-Class Coupe. It was probably a wise decision, as it’s still is one of the most successful designs in the luxury market and the revisions were limited to details rather than more drastic changes.

These revisions include an updated design for the front grille and bumpers, new wheels, as well as refreshed headlights and standard OLED taillights.

Similarly, the interior’s most noticeable difference is the new steering wheel. Mercedes also added an updated version of the COMAND Navigation system and a new function called Energizing Comfort. The latter tunes the climate control, ambient lighting, massage and fragrance functions to suit the mood of the driver and passengers.

A full range of driving assistance systems is also present, but this should be expected in a flagship Mercedes. The interior remains one of the most comfortable places to sit during a journey, featuring many gadgets and plenty of space for four adult passengers.

Carwow’s test car is the new S 560 Coupe, which comes with a new twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 producing 463hp and 516lb-ft of peak torque. Put it in Sport+ mode and the V8 has no trouble revealing its AMG origins as it pops and bangs when you lift the throttle.

The question is, however capable it might be, could the updated S-Class Coupe be considered in favor of much more expensive models, such as the Bentley Continental GT? Let’s see what Carwow has to say about it in the video that follows.
