Doctor tests positive for H1N1 in Tirunelveli

Tirunelveli: A doctor and three of his family members have been admitted in an isolated ward at the Tirunelveli Government Medical College and Hospital (TVMCH) after he tested positive for H1N1. The doctor, Kalyanakumar, 45, is serving in TVMCH and was suffering from fever and cold over the last four days. He had gone to a private hospital where tests were done on him.

On Friday night, the tests confirmed that he was H1N1 positive, following which he was admitted in the TVMCH. His 90-year-old grandfather who also had symptoms, his wife and mother were also admitted in the hospital the same night and their blood samples were sent for tests to confirm if they are suffering from H1N1.

Hospital authorities said that their condition is stable and they are undergoing proper line of treatment.

Corporation health officials visited the locality where the family resides, fumigated the house and the vicinity and also gave tablets to their relatives. TVMCH sources said that required arrangements are in place to treat those found with symptoms of H1N1.
