Take Your Pick Of Zuffenhausen’s Hypercars At RM Sotheby’s Porsche Auction

Most car auctions have a Porsche or two on offer. But RM Sotheby’s is holding a sale just for Zuffenhausen’s finest, including examples of its most coveted hypercars. And we’d be hard-pressed to choose between them.

Alongside a Paris-Dakar rally machine, the auction will include a rare 1985 Porsche 959 prototype. It’s the seventh of just twelve such pre-production cars made of Porsche’s technological tour-de-force, and one of just three or four that are thought to have survived. Resplendent in metallic dark red, it’s valued between $1.3 and 1.6 million.

Next up is a 2004 Carrera GT – the ten-cylinder roadster that was famously adapted from an aborted racing program. Porsche made 1,270 units, and this one has only put on 1,525 miles since its original owner took delivery in Europe and brought it back to America. Given the pride of place it takes in Porsche’s history and the spectacular shape in which this one appears to be, it strikes us as something of a bargain with a $650-750k pre-sale estimate.

Last, but certainly not least, is a 2015 918 Spyder looking gorgeous in Liquid Metal Chrome Blue. It’s had just one owner, who has put a mere 225 miles on it – which could make this the closest to factory-fresh as you’re going to find on the open market. RM expects the hybrid hypercar to bring in $1.4-1.6 million, putting it in the same bracket (more or less) as the 959 prototype.

The auction is set to take place at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta in celebration of the marque’s 70th anniversary at the end of this month. So if you had the money to spend, and were inclined to bring one of the top performance machines ever to emerge from Stuttgart in your garage, which would have you raising your hand to place a bid?
