Sporting event to promote Sikh culture to be held in Delhi in December

An sporting event aimed at promoting culture and tradition and creating awareness against obesity and drug menace will be held in in December, said the of Gurdwara Management Committee Sunday.

Inspired by the annual Australian Games, the three-day-long 'Sikh Games' will be a mix of traditional and modern sports, including Sikh martial arts, kabaddi, arms twisting, gymnastics and basketball, Manjit Singh GK said.

The event will be held at and other venues on December 22-25.

"The are being organised to tap the sporting talents of Sikh youth and create awareness against obesity and drug menace besides promoting our culture," he said.

Around 4,000 youths drawn from nearly 100 educational institutions across Delhi-will compete in the games and organisers will sponsor winners for training in Australia, he said.

The local Sikh community in annually holds Sikh Games to promote its culture. 2019 will be held in where athletes from across as well as New Zealand, and will take part.
