Ailing Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday returned to Goa by an Air Ambulance after being discharged from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, where he has been under treatment for nearly a month.
In an ambulance stationed at the Dabolim airport in South Goa, Mr. Parrikar was taken straight to his private residence, amidst tight security. A government-operated ambulance and medical crew has been kept on stand-by at his residence.
He was admitted to the AIIMS on September 15. He has been in and out of hospitals for more than seven months.
On Friday, Mr. Parrikar held a meeting of his Cabinet Ministers and senior BJP State executive committee members at the AIIMS. His condition was said to have deteriorated after the meeting.
The opposition Congress has been demanding Mr. Parrikar’s resignation on account of his prolonged illness and absence from office.
With Mr. Parrikar’s health deteriorating, political activity in the State of Goa is expected to heat up in coming few days, say sources in political circles here.
