KOLKATA: There is no rain threat over Durga Pujo festival in West Bengal anymore. The Met office sees no rain in the radar for now. In fact, the weathermen expect not only dry days ahead but a pleasant weather during the festival when the mercury will stay below the normal mark.
“The low pressure moved over to Bangladesh on Saturday and the system has dissipated by now. We see no system that will trigger rain during the festival in Kolkata and other parts of the state,” said GK Das, director (weather) at Regional Meterological Centre Kolkata.
Cyclone TITLI had threatened to dampen the puja spirit last week. The city escaped the heavy rain scare. However, overnight rain on Friday till Saturday evening, had created panic among revelers as well as puja organisers who had made preparations to prevent the rain from washing out the pandals. Midnapore and Jhargram bore the brunt of the depression formed after the cyclone lost strength.
“We are expecting the maximum and minimum to be slightly below the normal mark to hover around 31 and 24 degree Celsius respectively. If no significant system develops, we can expect a pleasant weather during the festivity,” added Das.
