NEW YORK (AP) — An Army veteran seeking to unseat the only Republican Congress member from New York City is part of a wave of Democrats with military experience running in next month's midterm elections.
Democrat Max Rose will face Republican incumbent Dan Donovan in a district that consists of Staten Island plus a slice of Brooklyn.
Rose is running as a moderate in a district that voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and Barack Obama in 2012.
Knocking on doors in Brooklyn's Bay Ridge neighborhood, Rose introduced himself as a veteran running for Congress. Some voters were receptive.
Annemarie Rossi said she's proud of Rose because he served his country.
But Donovan charges that Rose moved to Staten Island only to run for Congress. He charges in a TV ad that Rose is "not one of us."
