Atlantic Storm Caused Power Cuts North of Lisbon, RTP Says

(Bloomberg) -- Thousands of people in northern Portugal were still without electricity on Sunday morning after a storm hit the country on Saturday night, RTP reported on its website, citing electricity supplier EDP Distribuicao.

Most effects of the storm, including fallen trees, were recorded in the regions of Leiria, Coimbra and Lisbon, according to the National Civil Protection Authority.

The storm entered Spain in the early hours of Sunday morning and winds reached up to 96 kilometers per hour in Zamora, the Spanish province near the northeast tip of Portugal, according to La Vanguardia. The storm continued on a northeast path toward the French boarder, maintaining winds of at least 63 kilometers per hour, the newspaper said, citing Spain’s Aemet weather service.
