BENGALURU: A baby girl, who was barely two days old and battling respiratory issues when she was admitted to Vani Vilas Hospital five months ago, has had no relative to see her.
However, the child has been taken care of by doctors and nurses at the hospital and is hale and hearty now. On Saturday, she will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee, said Dr Ravindranath Meti, resident medical officer, Vani Vilas Hospital.
Woman entered wrong address in hospital records
Police said the girl was brought to the hospital on May 15 by a woman who identified herself as Manjula. As per hospital records, the woman claimed to be the child’s relative and entered Dombarahalli, near Madanayakanahalli (on the outskirts of Bengaluru), as her address. But she went missing after 2-3 days. That’s when the hospital staff realised the sick baby had been abandoned.
“The baby was not born in Vani Vilas, but was brought here when she was only two days old. We don’t know who her parents are. Our nurses have been taking care of the child and she is doing well now,” said Dr Meti.
Medico-legal case
The hospital registered a medico-legal case memo with Madanayakanahalli police, who found the address provided during admission was fake. The hospital has now approached Vishveshwarapuram police to trace the girl’s parents. Meanwhile, cops are also trying to find Manjula.
