Sudden rain forces organisers to shift Unjal Seva venue

Elegance marked the Kalpavriksha Vahanam organised on Saturday, the fourth day of the ongoing Navartatri Brahmotsavams, at the famous hill temple of Lord Venkateswara.

The utsava deity of Lord Malayappa, flanked on either side by his two divine consorts, was carried in a grand procession atop the golden Kalpavriksha Vahanam much to the delight of the devotees who had congregated around the Mada streets of the sacred shrine.

Adding more grandeur to the divine procession, the idols of Kamadhenu and Chintamani also formed part of the assemblage atop the golden carrier.

Despite a moderate turnout in the crowd, the devotees had a tough time in witnessing the two-time daily procession of the deity. The deployment of heavy security and police men at all the four corners hindered the smooth movement of the pilgrims into the Mada streets. Restrictions in the movement of the vehicles also continued for the second day.

The sudden downpour in the evening also compounded the difficulties of the visiting devout.

The Unjal Seva, which normally is organised at the unjal mandapam outside the temple complex, was conducted at the Vaibhavotsava mandapam.

Cultural troupes

Meanwhile, special cultural troupes from Telangana, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala and Haryana reached the town to give their performance during the procession of Garuda Seva on Sunday.

The festivities came to an end with the procession of Sarva Bhupala Vahanam in the night.
