Rajkot: Threat calls for ransom are common. But a general manager of a private firm was perplexed when he got a threat call asking him to provide water to a residential society. Water crisis due to deficient rains this monsoon reportedly prompted a resident of Jamnagar to make threat calls the general manager, police said.

Umesh Jain, general manager of a chemical company, received a call two days ago from a person who identified himself as Halvad MLA Mahendrasinh. The caller asked Jain to start water supply from the company’s private pipeline to a residential society near-by. He even threatened to kill Jain and kidnap his family members if he didn’t comply. The caller continuously hurled expletives at Jain.

After taking advice from his seniors, Jain registered a complaint with the Bedi Marine police station on Saturday. From the call detail records, police found that the threat call was made by a person named Pravin Koli, who lived in a residential colony close to the chemical company. However, the phone was switched off.
