Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu who was completely dissatisfied with the inordinate delay in providing food and water to the victims of cyclone and floods warned the officials to face severe consequences if they were unable to meet the expectations of people and government. He said that more than 70 per cent of the victims were complaining about delay in relief operations.
Mr. Naidu who visited several cyclone affected areas on Friday held an emergency meeting with senior officials including Collector K. Dhananjaya Reddy and Joint Collector KVN Chakradhar Babu in Palasa town which was also devastated. "As many as 78 per cent people complained about delay in restoration of electricity. Around 60 per cent people had told me that they were not given food and water. If situation does not improve, I don't hesitate to suspend officials who do not work sincerely in relief operations," he added.
Minister for Panchayat Raj and IT Nara Lokesh has also held an emergency meeting in Srikakulam district. According to the directive, the district administration decided to bring more generators to fetch water from 19 multi village water supply scheme. All of them have become defunct for the last few days with the impact of Titli storm. Water will be supplied to 377 villages by tankers. The water supply will continue for a couple of days. Road network will also be improved. Around 116 km road network got damaged in various villages of Vajrapukotturu, Mandasa, Palasa, Kotabommali, Santabommali and other areas.
According to him, normalcy should be restored by Sunday morning in almost all the villages. Clearance of fallen trees, removal of garbage, cleaning of drainage system and fogging in flood affected areas will be done immediately. Special teams of officials, staff and sanitation workers from various districts including East Godavari, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram were brought.
Minister for Agriculture Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy who reached Srikakulam on Saturday morning directed the officials to prepare an action plan to save the crops which were partially damaged due to cyclone and floods.
Joint Director for Agriculture-Srikakulam G.Ramarao said that the 1.36 lakh hectares of paddy was damaged in 38 mandals. “In association with revenue department, we are sending special teams to all mandals for the assessment of the damage. The government will pay compensation to all the farmers who lost their crops in accordance to rules,” said Mr.Ramarao while speaking to The Hindu.
