Compassionate and loving, 43-year-old Pranitha Timothy has always aimed at spreading love and peace among people who feel dejected and hopeless in life. She started serving the society at a very young age, helping the rescue of those caught in trafficking. Working with an NGO for the past five years, she said, “As an organisation, we firmly believe in the power and resilience of ‘over-comers’.”

The organisation’s staff, many of who are overcomers themselves, serve as the powerful agents to bring about a change in the environment that once caused them pain. Describing the projects that the organisation is working, she said, “We have been working on a few projects like Project Diya, Project Ummeed and Project Rahaat.” The projects focus on bringing dignity, love and truth into the lives of the dejected persons, who are traumatised by exploitation and abuse.
“We rescue victims of trafficking, runaways, abused and vulnerable minors,” she added. Her experience in dealing with such cases for many years has served to benefit the organisation in terms of its work. With her by their side, the organisation was able to work alongside government-run homes to develop systems and infrastructure, engage the victim through the much-needed counselling and therapy, provide rescue and rehabilitation and continue to support the victims.
“Our work focusses primarily on anti-trafficking, prevention and intervention of child sexual abuse and prevention and intervention in domestic violence,” said Pranitha, whom many who were helped by her see as the light in their lives.
Despite challenges she faced, Pranitha stands strong to ensure others also remain strong in the face of crises. At a young age, she was diagnosed with a brain tumour. “My vocal chords were paralysed. I went in for surgery and the doctors warned me and my family that I may or may not survive the surgery,” she said. Following the surgery, she lost her voice. However, that has not stopped her from becoming a motivational speaker and a role model for so many today.
