To encourage office-goers, students, and other citizens to use public transport for commuting, District Collector K. Vasuki commuted by train from Thiruvananthapuram Central to Varkala.
Accompanied by Assistant Collector Priyanka G. and those undergoing the District Collector’s Internship Programme (DCIP), the District Collector travelled in the sleeper class coach of Netravati Express interacting with commuters.
The train journey was part of the C Power 5’s new campaign #PPT Challenge. (Promote Public Transport). The district administration’s project C5 (Change Can Change Climate Change) launched earlier this year aims at a sustainable lifestyle to mitigate the effects of climate change. The District Collector reminded the commuters about the advantages of using public transport and the need to decongest roads to bring down carbon footprint.
The team alighted at Varkala railway station and later the District Collector chaired a review meeting in Varkala municipality where the local body is successfully running a Material Recovery Facility, a waste collection and segregation centre.
