Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday sought ₹1,200 crore from the Centre as immediate relief to take up relief operations in the cyclone-devastated areas of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts.
Mr. Naidu, who has been camping at Palasa monitoring relief operations in Srikakulam district, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard. According to a release from the CM’s camp office at Palasa, the loss was ₹2,800 crore with horticulture crop and agriculture accounting for ₹1,000 crore and ₹800 crore. Around ₹500 crore was needed for electricity restoration and ₹100 crore for roads and buildings. Animal husbandry, fisheries, irrigation, rural water supply departments needed each ₹50 crore.
The Panchayat Raj Department must be given ₹100 crore for improvement of rural infrastructure. Mr. Naidu said Titli had caused heavy damage with 165 kmph wind and 10 to 43 cm rainfall in many areas on October 11 when it hit the coast near Santabommali mandal.
“The Centre’s liberal help is needed for them.” said Mr. Naidu.
