GURUGRAM: A man from Behrampur village was summoned by the court in connection with an ongoing civil case. On the direction of the court, the summon notice was delivered by hand on Friday. After reading it, the man tore and burnt it in an earthen stove, for which he was arrested on Saturday.
On September 21, in a civil case (MM vs Ravi Kumar), additional session judge J S Kundu had issued a summons to Balraj for failing to appear before court. According to police, Balraj was arrested from his residence on Saturday. He was booked under IPC sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of duty), 353 (assault), 204 (destruction of evidence), and 506 (criminal intimidation).
On Friday, around 11.15pm, the process server (clerk) from the court’s administrative departments, Ishwar Singh, who is responsible for delivering summons by hand, went to Behrampur village along with a security guard to the residence of Balraj. “He (Balraj) was available at the house. I handed over the summons to him. He read it and then tore it and put it in an earthen stove,” Singh told police, adding that the accused also verbally abused him when Singh had objected to his behaviour.
Balraj also allegedly threatened Singh, asking him to leave, saying otherwise he would burn him as well. “I ran for my life and tried calling 100, but could not connect despite multiple calls. I went to the Sector 65 police station after that,” Singh said.
Later, chief judicial magistrate Prashant Rana wrote a letter to Sector 65 police station for filing a case, based on Singh’s complaint.
