Parithi Ilamvazhuthi, former TN minister, dies aged 58

CHENNAI: Former DMK minister Parithi Ilamvazhuthi died here on Saturday morning due to a cardiac arrest, family sources said. He was 58.
Ilamvazhuthi had represented the Egmore assembly constituency on the DMK ticket for a record six times, from1989 to 2006. He had been the deputy speaker of the Tamil Nadu from 1996 and 2001.

Ilamvazhuthi, who was a confidante of former DMK chief M Karunanidhi, had been a minister between 2006 and 2011.


In the 1991 assembly elections, the DMK won only two seats -- one by Karunanidhi and the by Ilamvazhuthi.


In 2013, he left the DMK and joined the AIADMK.


In February 2017, he was expelled from the AIADMK on charges of anti-party activities as he joined the O Panneerselvam camp. After the unification of the EPS and OPS camps in August 2017, he moved to the V K Sasikala camp and was with the AMMK.
