NASHIK: The district administration has appointed Medi-Art handed over the responsibility to look after the boys’ hostel that will soon be started in two buildings in MERI quarters for the EBC students.

According to the sources Medi-Art won the draw in which it as competing with several other organisations to run the hostel that was raised by Public Works Department in the two buildings acquired from Maharashtra Engineering Research Institute (MERI) for providing the hostel facilities to over 100 students.

The decision to start the hostel was taken by the state government following the state wide agitations by the Maratha Community demanding reservation and better education facilities and hostels for the deprived students of the community.

While the decision on giving the reservation to the community is under process the government ordered raising of such hostel facilities in the major cities and hence ordered the district administrations to identity and develop the locations where the children who have taken admissions to professional courses and who wall fall under the economically backward class (EBS) structure are given the hostel facility.

The PWD acquired the two buildings and then renovated them to make hostel facility for 100 Students, canteen, library, study hall, a quarter superintendent of the hostel etc.

Since Medi-Art and Chhatrapati Foundation were the only two who qualified to the government criteria and terms and conditions, the Collector Radhakrishnan B, called for a draw in which Medi-Art was picked up.
