Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad SSP on Friday transferred four inspectors and 12 sub-inspectors in the district, a day after the Kavi Nagar station house officer and two other police officers were suspended for allegedly “torturing and beating” up a married couple.
Inspector Rojant Tyagi, who was the SHO of Loni Border, will now take charge of Kavi Nagar police station. After the recent transfer of inspector Sachin Malik from Indirapuram, the post of SHO had been lying vacant. Now, Nazir Ali Khan, in-charge of a special team — Alpha — will head the Indirapuram police station.

Besides that, Neeraj Kumar Singh, in-charge of the complaint cell, has been transferred as SHO of Tronica City police station. Shailendra Pratap Singh, in-charge of the integrated grievance redress system, has been made the SHO of Loni Border.

The station house officer of Kavi Nagar police station, Pradeep Kumar Tripathi, senior sub-inspector of police Hindveer Singh and Sanjay Nagar outpost in-charge Balram Singh Sengar were suspended on Thursday evening for allegedly “harassing” a couple at the police station the previous night.

The couple, Dhan Singh (40) and wife Manju Singh Chauhan (35), were brought to the police station and arrested for allegedly beating up sub-inspector Balram Singh Sengar and tearing his uniform after he asked them what they were doing inside a car in a secluded place in Kavi Nagar. Manju’s brother, a BJP councillor, denied the allegation and said it was the police officer who had “misbehaved” with them and asked “unnecessary questions”.

After securing bail on Thursday, Singh and Manju met SSP Vaibhav Krishna and alleged they were thrashed and harassed at the police station on Wednesday night. An internal probe was conducted and it was found that the couple had indeed been harassed at the police station. Along with Sengar, senior sub-inspector Hindveer Singh was suspended. Kavi Nagar SHO Pradeep Kumar Tripathi was also found guilty of dereliction of duty and was suspended with immediate effect.

“An FIR had been registered against the couple at Kavi Nagar police station for deterring a public servant from discharging his duty and criminal intimidation . They were brought to the police station. While the man was detained there itself, the woman was sent to the all-women police station. The couple got bail on Thursday and met me later in the day. They alleged they were tortured and harassed at the police station the previous night. Their allegations, prima facie, were found to be true,” Krishna said.
