Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken on Friday announced that the party will be launching an agitation ‘Mera Haq, Ethe Rakh’ to secure the rights of street vendors in the city.

He said the agitation would continue till street vendors get the rights as envisioned in the Street Vendors Act, 2014.

Mr. Maken said that the Act, which aims to protect the livelihood, rights and social security of street vendors, is not being enforced in Delhi.

“The Act was passed to ensure more participation of street vendors, or their elected representatives, in the process of formation of Town Vending Committees and for selecting vending and non-vending zones,” said Mr. Maken.

Mr. Maken said according to the the Act, at least 28 Town Vending Committees should have been constituted in Delhi, consisting of 12 elected members each, but it is very unfortunate that whereas at least 326 elected members should have been there, there are only 152 elected members in Delhi till now.
