Patna: Criminals looting ATM kiosk open fire on police patrolling team

PATNA: Unidentified armed criminals, trying to loot ATM kiosk, opened fire on a police patrolling team near GPO roundabout under Kotwali police station area in state capital at around 1.30am on Saturday.
Police said they received a phone call about suspicious activity inside ATM kiosk of Punjab National Bank (PNB) at roundabout following which a Kotwali police station’s patrolling team which was Dak Bungalow roundabout was pressed into action.
“Soon after the patrolling team reached at spot, three criminals guarding the kiosk at its entrance opened fire on policemen. In retaliation, police also opened fire at least three rounds targeting the criminals,” a police officer said.
He said that two of the criminals were inside the kiosk and had already started cutting the heavy steel chest of kiosk using a gas cutter.
“All of them managed to flee from the spot. The gas cutting equipment was seized from spot,” he said.
He said police were going through CCTV footage of ATM kiosk to ascertain identities of the criminals. The ATM was partially damaged due to the cutting attempt.
