A sexually harassed woman attempted to commit suicide by setting herself ablaze at Puthukkadai on Friday.
Police said Rajesh, 34, of Puthukkadai misbehaved with an unmarried woman from the same area on Friday. As the woman screamed in fear, the neighbours rushed to the spot. Even before they could nab him, Rajesh escaped.
Upset over this incident, the victim allegedly set herself ablaze and has been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital at Aasaripallam in a critical condition.
In a statement she gave to the Judicial Magistrate, the victim reportedly told that she was forced to take the extreme step as Rajesh sexually harassed her.
The Puthukkadai police have registered a case against Rajesh.
