Free agent deadline ...

The deadline for offering deals to free agents is today. These are the players left in limbo:

Restricted

Jordan Roughead (Western Bulldogs)

Unrestricted

Rohan Bewick (Brisbane Lions, delisted); Jarryd Blair (Collingwood); Tyson Goldsack (Collingwood); George Horlin-Smith (Geelong Cats); Daniel Menzel (Geelong Cats); Michael Rischitelli (Gold Coast Suns, delisted but will re-rookie); Taylor Duryea (Hawthorn); Ryan Schoenmakers (Hawthorn); Brendan Whitecross (Hawthorn); Sam Gilbert (St Kilda, delisted); Mark LeCras (West Coast); Eric Mackenzie (West Coast); Tom Liberatore (Western Bulldogs).

After today these guys could still be offered new deals by their clubs, or they can nominate for the draft.

More on Scully ...

Multiple reports are now saying Hawthorn have done a medical on Tom Scully.

Dees explain Preuss deal

“Braydon is a mature body and he’s physically ready to play AFL football,” Melbourne footy boss Josh Mahoney told the club's website.

“He has chosen Melbourne so that he can play with, and learn, under Max (Gawn), and our ruck coach, Greg Stafford, which is a good sign of the program we have at the club.

“Max was very keen to get Braydon on board, for both of their benefits. Through competitive work at training, they both believe they are going to improve as players.

“We look forward to Braydon’s development.”

“Dom has been a very important part of the building of our midfield over the past five seasons,” he said.

“It’s an area that we really had to bolster, and the growth and development of our young players in recent times has meant that he has had some limited opportunities playing as an inside midfielder.

“He sought these opportunities to play in his preferred role elsewhere, and we’re pleased that we can give Dom an opportunity to extend his career further.”

On Scully and Tim O'Brien ...

Worth noting Hawthorn’s No.1 doctor Michael Makdissi is currently overseas for a concussion conference, which potentially complicates matters when assessing Tom Scully. Also contrary to a report this morning, Tim O’Brien hasn’t done a medical with Port Adelaide.

Update on Ryan Burton from Jake Niall ...

Ryan Burton is considering his options after Hawthorn put him on the trade table in a deal to get Port Adelaide’s Chad Wingard to the Hawks.

Burton was taken aback by Hawthorn’s move when they indicated to Port Adelaide that they were willing to consider trading him as part of a Wingard swap. Burton, having signed a 3 year deal in July last year and being fourth in B&F last year, was upset at the development.

Burton is overseas on holiday at the moment.

Port had been clear to Hawthorn that Burton would have to be part of any Wingard deal.

It is understood that Burton would want an improvement on his current three year deal with Hawthorn to even consider a move back to his home state with Port Adelaide. He had been happy at Hawthorn up until the Wingard scenario arose.

Wingard has chosen Hawthorn as his preferred club ahead of the Western Bulldogs with Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson holding a high opinion of Wingard, who shapes as a prospective replacement for the retired Cyril Rioli.

While players in Burton’s position usually get traded to that club (Port Adelaide in this case), Burton has the option of considering other clubs, if he wishes.

Port also want Hawthorn’s pick 15 as part of the deal.
