Kerala local bodies polls: LDF wins 12 out of 20 seats

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: LDF improved its tally by winning one extra seat in the election to 20 local body ward seats, the results of which were announced here on Friday.


LDF clinched 12 seats, while the UDF won six and an independent candidate was declared winner at one seat in Idukki district. The BJP which had no representation in any of the 20 wards, wrested one seat (Navaikulam) from UDF. The seat position prior to the election was LDF 11, UDF 7 and 2 others.

LDF wrested Thrikkunnpuzha (north) and Kolachery wards from the UDF while it lost Kambamcode and Thainagar ward to UDF.


Elections were held in 16 grama panchayath wards in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur districts and one block panchayath ward each in Malappuram and Kannur and one municipality ward each in Wayanad and Kannur districts.


The seats won by LDF , UDF are as follows:


LDF: Nanniyodu-Meenmutti ( TVM), Sasthamcotta-Bharanikkavu ( Kollam), Sooranadu south-Thrikkunnappuzha north ( Kollam), Vandiperiyar-Inchikkad( idukki), Pothanikkad-Thrikkeppadi 9 EKM), Kizhakkanchery-Ilankavu (Palakkad), Ayanchery-Poyilpara( kozhikode), Mangattidam-Kaithery( Koz), kannapuram-Kayatten(koz), Kolachery ( Kannur), Manthankolly ( Wayanad), Kavumbhagam ( kannur).


UDF: Ummannur-Kambamkode ( Kollam), Nedumkandam-Kizhakku( Idukki), Muzhuvannur-Cheenikuzhy( Idukki), kaipamangalam-Thainagar ( thrissur), Thuruvegappara-Amappotta( pkd), Thuvakkad( Malappuram).
