Force used to control protesters

Normal life was disrupted in Kashmir on Friday following clashes during a shutdown backed by separatists over the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Manan Wani and his associate in an operation in Kupwara on Thursday.

Fierce clashes broke out in Srinagar’s Soura immediately after the Friday prayers.

The authorities, “as a precautionary measure”, disallowed Friday prayers at historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar. A large part of the old city was sealed and main roads closed.
