Motorists navigating the intersection of Anna Salai and Sardar Patel Road in Guindy have requested the Chennai Traffic Police to place barricades to prevent motorists, especially those operating heavy vehicles, from taking a sharp right turn there.
Often, motorists coming from Sardar Patel Road hit the intersection at a breakneck speed and take a right turn without slowing down, to enter Anna Salai towards Saidapet and Little Mount. Motorists coming from St. Thomas Mount and Chennai International Airport, who follow lane discipline, have to swerve left to avoid collision.
“The traffic police personnel deployed at the intersection remains a mute spectator to the chaos. The worse are Metropolitan Transport Corporation drivers,” said L. N. Narayanan, a resident of Guindy.
“Barricades must be placed on Sardar Patel Road and at the intersection to allow motorists slow down,” said K. Balakumaran, a resident of Adyar, adding that he makes it a point to slow down near the intersection.
At the intersection of Guindy Taluk Road, Velachery Main Road and Anna Salai, Little Mount, where a similar situation prevails, a couple of traffic police personnel have been deployed to ensure free movement of pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
A Chennai Traffic Police official said steps will be taken to deploy police personnel during the rush hours.
