NOIDA: Noida Authority will allot flats to 98 slum-dweller families in Sector 122 on October 16, seven years after announcing a resettlement project. The Authority had started developing the project in 2011 and aims to relocate hundreds of families who have been encroaching on land in Sector 4-5 and Sector 8-10.
An official said all preparations were in place to shift a section of slum-dwellers to the new area during the Navratri period. “The Authority has already given allotment to 98 people. On Tuesday, they will be given keys to their homes,” he said.
According to the official, allotments to the slum-dwellers will be done block-wise. Once the encroached land is vacated, it would be put to various use, such as setting up parks, parking lots, roads, etc.
Sources said the Authority had received around 150 candidates who had expressed interest to be relocated. But, a number of applicants was found to have submitted incomplete documents. The district administration and the Noida Authority had earlier conducted a survey and found altogether 11,565 slum-dwellers across the city. The Authority has developed 3,458 houses under the JJ Dwellers Resettlement Scheme. Each of them is priced at Rs 6 lakh.
