Principal District and Sessions Judge Kadloor Sathyanaraya Acharya on Thursday sentenced Dolphy Goveas, 33, to life and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on him, on finding him guilty of murdering his octogenarian father Paul Goveas.
Dolphy was accused of stabbing his father when he was alone at home in Kairangala near Moodbidri on April 14, 2017. He was also charged with assaulting his elder brother Stany before escaping from the house.
The judge on Tuesday convicted Dolphy under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 427 (mischief) and 447 (criminal trespass) of the Indian Penal Code. After the hearing on Wednesday, the judge pronounced the sentence on Thursday.
Apart from life imprisonment for murder, Dolphy has also been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fine ₹10,000 for the offence under Sections 307 and 201 of IPC.
All the sentences will run concurrently. The judge further directed Dolphy to pay ₹50,000 as compensation to his brother Stany within a month.
