Incident happened over the weekend; accused still at large

A 25-year-old air hostess has accused a colleague of stalking and holding her hostage for 10 hours inside her house in south Delhi’s Mahipalpur over the weekend, the police said on Thursday.

A case has been registered in connection with the incident, which happened on October 6-7 (Sunday), but the accused is still at large, they said.

The woman managed to tip-off her mother about being held hostage on Sunday morning. The mother informed the victim’s brother, who called the police. However, the accused fled as soon as he realised that the victim had managed to make an SOS call. “We have registered an FIR under IPC Sections 354-D [stalking], 452 [trespass] and 342 [punishment for wrongful confinement] at Vasant Kunj [North] police station. We contacted the victim to record her statement before a Magistrate but she is out of India for work,” said a senior officer.

Alone at home

In her complaint to the police, the woman said she was alone at home at the time of the incident as her mother had gone out of town. The colleague, who the victim claimed was stalking her, discovered this and landed at her doorstep.

The accused kept knocking on the door, but the air hostess did not let him in. The knocking ceased after a while and the woman assumed the accused got fed up and left. Moments later, she saw dirty water seeping into the house. She opened the door to check its source but was pushed inside by the accused at knifepoint.

“He snatched my phone and held me hostage inside my room at knifepoint. He tried to force himself on me but I resisted, and scratched his face and hands. I tried to run out of the house, but he caught me and threatened to stab me if I tried to escape again,” the victim said.

The accused sat at the door, with his knife pointed at her, she said, adding that she was kept hostage from 11 p.m. on October 6 to 9 a.m. on Sunday.

“She managed to call her mother after the accused dozed off around 9 a.m. The mother informed her son, who called the police. The accused discovered that the woman had called her mother for help and fled after taking ₹2,000 from her wallet,” she said. She narrated her ordeal to the police after they reached her house.
