The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has won 12, the United Democratic Front (UDF) 6 and the BJP and an Independent one seat each in the byelections held in 20 local body wards on Wednesday.
The byelections were held in 16 grama panchayat wards in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Idukki, Ernakulam Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode and Kannur, one block panchayat ward each in Malappuram, Kannur and one municipal ward each in Wayanad and Kannur.
The following are the wards won by the LDF with the names of the winners.
Thiruvananthapuram district: Meenmutty in Nandiyode - R. Pushpan; Kollam: Bharanikavu in Sasthamcotta - Bindu Gopalakrishnan, Thrikunnapuzha North in Sooranad South - V. Sasindran Pillai; Idukki: Injikadu in Vandiperiyar - P.P. Sugandhi; Ernakulam: Thrikkepadi in Pothanikadu - Geetha Sasikumar; Palakkad: Ilangavu in Kizhakkancherry - N. Ramakrishnan; Kozhikode: Poyinpara in Ayancherry - Sunitha Malayil, Kaitheri 12th Mile in Mangattidam - Kanjan Balan, Kayatteel in Kannapuram - P.V.Damodaran; Kannur: Kolacherry in Edakode block - K.Anil Kumar; Wayanad: Mandam Kolli in Sultan Batherry municipality - Sherly Krishnan; Kannur: Kavumbhagom in Thalassery municipality - K.N.Anish.
The following are the UDF winners: Kollam: Kambamkode in Ummanoor - E.K.Anish; Idukki: Nedumkandam East in Nedumkandam - Bindu Biju; Ernakulam: Cheenikuzhi in Mazhuvannoor - Basi K.George; Thrissur; Thai Nagar in Kaippamangalam - Jancy; Palakkad: Aamapotta in Thiruvegapura - V.K. Badarudeen, Malappuram: Thoovakdu in Tanur block - P.C. Ashraff.
BJP candidate Yamuna Biju was elected from the 28th Mile ward at the Navaikulam panchayat here. An Independent, Ajo Varghese, was elected from the Vellimala ward in the Vandamedu panchayat.
