LUDHIANA: The criminal, who allegedly fired at constable Davinder Singh outside the DMC Hospital on October 8, executed a Rs 10.8 lakh robbery on Ferozepur Road on October 9.
When the police were tracing the accused, identified as Rohit Kuba, he changed his get up and executed the robbery with his accomplices and injured two employees of a private cash management service.
On October 8, constable Davinder Singh had found Rohit Kuba and his accomplice sitting on a motorcycle that had no number plate. When the cop asked him to present the documents of the bike, both the accused tried to flee. Davinder with the help of passersby nabbed Rohit, but opened fire at the constable and escaped. The constable sustained a bullet injury.
The police got the picture of the accused and identified him as Rohit Kuba of Rishi Nagar, who had a criminal background.
Even as the police were on toes to trace the accused, Rohit just changed his getup on October 9 to execute another crime.
Police commissioner Sukhchain Singh Gill said, “Kuba changed his getup to execute the crime. When he shot at the constable, he had beard and a parna to resemble like a sardar. The parna had fallen down when Rohit was fleeing after opening fire at the constable. However, the next day he got clean shaved and executed the robbery.”
Importantly, the gang had planned to execute robbery on the night of October 8.
Assistant commissioner of police (West) Gurpreet Singh said, “The gang was planning to execute the robbery on October 8. However, Rohit shot at a constable and even his pictures were revealed so he went underground for the night. He switched his phone off and his accomplices could not contact him. Next day, they contacted him after which Rohit shaved his beard and executed crime.”
ACP Gurpreet shared that the gang contacted Rohit as he had a weapon. The official said it is a part of investigating if Rohit had gone outside to steal a bike for robbery.
