Three on bike held for abusing traffic cop

PUNE: The Alankar police on Thursday arrested three men for abusing a traffic constable when he had stopped them for driving triple seat near Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital.
Senior police inspector (traffic) Pratibha Joshi said on Wednesday she got a call about haphazard parking of vehicles in the lane in front of the hospital. She said. “This was causing congestion. Ambulances were finding it difficult to reach the hospital.”

The officer sent constable Chintamani Desai to take action against the vehicles parked illegally near the hospital. “While Desai was busy in taking action, he noticed three men riding on a motorcycle,” Joshi said.

Desai intercepted the bike and told them to pay fine for driving triple seat. “The trio abused and pushed Desai when he tried to catch them,” Joshi said.

Another constable present in the area recorded the incident on his cellphone. “The clip was provided when the complaint was lodged with the Alankar police,” Joshi said.

They were charged under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from duty) and 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act
