Moneylender in five-day police custody

Maharajan Petchimuthu, the alleged kingpin of an illegal moneylending racket, was sent to five-day police custody on Thursday.

In an unending drama surrounding the case, the City police had arrested the accused afresh in another case on Wednesday after a court in Thoppumpady granted him bail in the original case in which he was arrested.

The police presented him in a judicial magistrate court in Ernakulam which sent him to police custody for evidence collection and interrogation in a case registered at the Central station.

July 25 case

He is now in custody in connection with a case registered on July 25 based on a complaint filed by one Shahul Hameed. According to the complainant, the accused had insisted on payment of ₹3 crore, including interest, on a loan of ₹2 crore, though he had repaid ₹65 lakh.
