Titli Cyclone: 7 killed, huge loss to cashew, coconut crops: CM

Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that seven persons were killed and cashew and coconut crops suffered huge losses in the very severe cyclonic storm ‘Titli’ which had crossed Palasa in this district on Thursday.

The Chief Minister inspected the cyclone devastation in Palasa town and other villages on Friday.Later the Chief Minister went to Akkupalli village which is a hub for cashew crop and witnessed the damages.Speaking on the occasion, he assured necessary assistance to the villagers and farmers who had suffered loss.

Later, addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister said that 7 persons were killed in the Cyclone in this district.An ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh will be distributed to the family members of the deceased, he said, adding large number of coconut and cashew trees were uprooted in Vajrapukothur and Uddanam villages.

He said that the Vamsadhara river is receiving 1.71 lakh cusecs of water. He said that 50 per cent of power supply have been restored so far and added that staff was being deputed from other districts to restore the power.

The Chief Minister said that nodal officer was appointed as in-charge of every mandal to supervise relief operations. Every officer should reach their entrusted village by this evening.

He said that 25 kg rice, 1 kg dal, 1 litre palm oil, 1 kg potatoes and 1 kg onions and half kg sugar will be distributed to BPL families in cyclone affected regions. 50 kg rice to be distributed to fishermen. Compensation would be paid for loss of animals and houses, he added.

District-in-charge Minister Pitani Satyanarayana, MP Ramamohana Naidu, Collector Dhanunjaya Reddy and ZP Chairperson Chowdary Dhanalakshmi accompanied the Chief Minister.
