International Express

It's lovely finding out how far and wide Express readers roam. Or should that be Rome (sorry not sorry for that pun)? Claus Larsen from Williamstown has sent us this picture of his view on holiday while he checks the blog.

And regular Target word unscrambler Evan Keane has let me know his answers are coming from Manchester every day. Thanks, global Expressers!

Win with the weather

We're still a fair way off naming a winner for our weather competition as the temperatures are still falling far short of 30 degrees.

Yesterday's top was 16.5 recorded at 2.56pm. Today is heading towards 20 though so at least that's the right direction.

Odd spot

Christina Sanchez was flattened by a large buck deer 16 kilometres into the Jersey Shore Half Marathon - but that didn't stop her from completing the race. The deer dashed out of the woods and took her out "in a blur of brown and white fur". She finished about 10 minutes slower than her goal time.

Commute update

Let's look at how the commute's going. Let me know if you've hit any trouble.

  • There are minor delays on the Hurstbridge line.
  • Route 19 trams hit some delays earlier but are slowly returning to the regular schedule.
  • Things are slow on the West Gate Freeway at Yarraville with a right-hand lane blocked inbound.
  • A collision has closed lanes eastbound on Victoria Street, near LaTrobe Street in the city. Delays are back to the Queen Vic Market.

Most people should be up and about by now so it's competition time! We have some free Melbourne International Arts Festival tickets to give away and everyone loves free tickets.

So what happens when a recorder virtuoso meets a guqin master, then they collaborate with a choreographer and composer? One Infinity is what.

It's billed as both meditative and electric, choreography and everyday movement; an experience of deep listening in which the most powerful voice comes from within. You can read more about it here

One Infinity is on at the The Coopers Malthouse from October 12 to 20, as part of the Melbourne International Arts Festival.

You ca win a double pass to Saturday night's show from 7.30pm by answering this question: What is a guqin?

Send your answers via email to anna.prytz@fairfaxmedia.com.au or Twitter and we'll name the winner by the end of the blog. Good luck!

I've had a lot of caffeine (daylight savings has thrown this early-worker for a bit of a loop) so let's tackle the Target word.

Today's letters are R A M E O D A L M.

Happy unscrambling! Let me know once you've got it via Twitter or email anna.prytz@fairfaxmedia.com.au

Vicious bashing in St Kilda

A man was left unconscious and seriously injured after a vicious bashing in St Kilda on the weekend.

The Point Cook man was delivering packages in Wilgah Street about 3.40am on Sunday when he was set upon by another man who began verbally abusing him before physically attacking him, punching him in the head and hitting him with a torch.

The offender then ran away leaving the victim on lying on the ground. He remains in hospital with serious head injuries.

Police have released a facefit image of the offender. He's described as Caucasian, aged between 25 and 35 with brown hair, a pale complexion and some missing teeth. He was wearing a grey hoodie and black-rimmed glasses.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
