Sr citizen ends life after loss in share market

MUMBAI: A senior citizen, aged 63, ended his life by hanging himself from the ceiling at his flat in Pushpanjali building in Kandivli (West) on Thursday. Kandivli police probing the case learnt from the deceased Vijay Naik's wife and daughter that he may have ended his life after incurring heavy loss in share market.
The incident was observed at around 12.30pm when Naik's domestic maid visited the flat to check about his well being. "The domestic help entered the flat with a spare key and found Naik hanging. She alerted the building residents, his wife and daughter. A suicide note was found in which he has held no one responsible," said Kandivli police senior inspector Nitin Pondkule.


At the time of incident Naik was alone at home while his wife and daughter were at their workplace. At around 12 noon, Naik's wife tried calling him on his mobile but he did not respond. In the statement, Naik's wife said, "I called my daughter to check about her father. When he did not respond to our calls, we called our domestic help and asked her to go and check about him."

Police said the deceased was under depression after incurring losing in share market. He retired from job few years ago. Deputy commissioner of police (Zone Xl) Sangramsinh Nishandar said the deceased's family does not know the total sum he has lost in the share market. A case of accidental death has been registered and probe is on under the Cr PC section 174.
