Should BMW Make A Gran Turismo For The 2019 BMW 3-Series?

At a recent interview during the Paris Auto Show, a BMW exec implied that the new 3-Series, which made its debut at the same venue, would not get a Gran Turismo derivative.

The fact that the X1 and X3 have both entered new-generational rotations is one factor that affects the 3 GT, as is the fact that crossovers in general are now a lot more efficient and pleasant to drive than they were a few years ago.

Also, according to BMW development boss Klaus Frohlich, having more 3-Series derivatives doesn’t necessarily equal better sales figures. So even though an official statement has yet to be released, it really seems as though BMW is ready to pull the plug on its 3-Series Gran Turismo experiment.

Yet, if for some reason things would turn out otherwise, the end result might be a little less controversial than on the first go-around, as the all-new G20 3-Series’ dynamic exterior design could lead to a better looking GT variant, such as this one, courtesy of Aksyonov Nikita.

All of the G20’s sharp design elements, from the dynamic profile creases to the taller shoulder line and the sleek taillights with the L-shaped LED strips, have been implemented into this rendering. It actually seems to blend in rather well with the fastback design, resembling the 4-Series Gran Coupe more than it does the actual 3-Series Gran Turismo.
