Weather Update: Rainfall in the southern and eastern parts of SA

Rain has been predicted for the southern and eastern parts of the country as the cold front that hit SA on Thursday makes its way over the region on Friday.

Warnings

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the western parts of the North West and the western parts of the Free State.

Watches

Severe thunderstorms are expected over the western parts of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and the southern Highveld of Mpumalanga.

Rain

Isolated showers and thundershowers can be expected over the southern parts of the Western Cape, the southern and eastern parts of the Eastern Cape, and the eastern parts of the Free State.

Scattered showers and thundershowers are predicted for KZN, while isolated showers and thundershowers are expected along the escarpment and eastern Highveld of Mpumalanga from the afternoon.

Temperatures 

Minimum temperatures are expected to be cool along the southern parts of the Great Karoo and the Little Karoo.

Warmer conditions are expected along the coastline and the central interior of the country, and hot weather has been predicted for the north.

Sutherland in the Northern Cape is expected to be one of the coldest places, with an expected minimum temperature of 4°C.

Maximum temperatures remain cool along the coast. Cold weather has been predicted for the southern coastline and the southern half of the Northern Cape.

Warm weather is expected along parts of the West Coast, the northern half of the Northern Cape, the Free State, and the Highveld region.

Hot to very hot conditions can be expected all along the north, including in Gauteng and North West regions.

Musina and Lephalale in Limpopo are expected to be two of the hottest places, each reaching a high of 37°C.

Pretoria will reach a high of 34°C, while Johannesburg and Bloemfontein will reach a high of 32°C.

Along the coast, Cape Town is expected to reach a high of 21°C, while Port Elizabeth is expected to hit a maximum of 15°C. Durban is expected to reach a high of 20°C.
