The government is set to begin year long celebrations in honour of Vijaya Raje Scindia’s birth centenary next year. The celebrations will take place between October 11, 2018, to October 11, 2019. During this period, seminars, lectures, publications and programmes focused on women empowerment will be held, a commemorative coin of Rs 100 and stamp will also be released in her honour. Fondly known as Rajmata of Gwalior, Scindia was born on October 12, 1919. She was one of the most prominent royal figures in the days of British Raj and a politician of considerable influence. She was a Member of Parliament between 1957 and 1998 and worked for the education of girls and women in the country.
