JAIPUR: The festive season brings with it a sense of enthusiasm and cheerfulness in people. The markets of
Pink City are shinning with decorations and shopkeepers are hopeful of good business and better profit. Jayanti Market in Jaipur is an electronic market and hundreds of shops are getting ready for the nine-day celebration. Shops selling televisions, refrigerators and smart phones are coming up with discount prizes for their products.
Mahendra Jain, the head for the advisory committee of the Jayanti Market while talking to TOI said, "This is the 18th year of our celebration of this festival in our market. To attract more customers we take out three lucky draws in every three hours on each day (nine awards every day). On the last day we give a bumper prize to the lucky winner which is for up to Rs 2 lakh. This has become a tradition and we are hopeful that this will attract more customers to our market."
Shopping during the festivals to get benefit of the discounted prizes is considered an older generation thing. As per a shopkeeper, the younger generation buys stuff whenever needed but it's the older generation still waits eagerly for the festivals to get the benefit of discounts.
As per the businessmen and shopkeepers, the festivals are no longer limited to particular community. One shopkeeper Ajay in Jauhari bazaar said, "People of all religion shop during festivals. As the good offers come during
Hindu festivals even Muslims and Christians shop during these festivals. They even take part in dandiya and garba. Festivals are for everyone. Please don't tag it to a particular religion."
During
Navratri, religious items like ma ki chunari, idols, and other stuff are also in demand and shopkeepers have ordered the items in advance.
