Delta’s Profit Rises Despite Increase in Fuel Costs

Carrier says domestic sales rose 9.2% in the latest quarter

Delta Air Lines Inc. said robust demand for flights helped it overcome rising fuel prices during the latest quarter, which could ease investor worries that those costs would hamper the company’s financial performance.

The Atlanta-based carrier said domestic sales, its most important segment, rose 9.2% to $7.4 billion during the third quarter compared with the same period a year ago, with unit revenue, a measure used by airlines that tallies how much they earn for each seat flow a mile, increasing 3.3%.
