Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo is facing rape charges. Kathryn Mayorga, the victim, filed a report Las Vegas police where she claimed that Ronaldo sexually assaulted her at a hotel in Las Vegas in 2009. On these accusations, Ronaldo’s lawyer issued a statement saying the football star didn’t rape a woman and their sexual encounter was ‘completely consensual’.

Earlier when the matter came into light, Ronaldo dismissed the claim saying it as a ‘fake news’ and his representative said that they would take legal action against Germany’s Der Spiegel, a weekly magazine which first reported the matter. Christiansen quoted in BBC news, “Media outlet irresponsibly” based its reports on “stolen and easily manipulated digital documents” of which “significant parts were altered and/or completely fabricated”.

Ronaldo’s lawyer further claimed that documents that appear to substantiate Kathryn Mayorga’s claims of rape by renowned footballer had been altered.

Meanwhile, Las Vegas police, last week said that they would be re-opening the investigation into allegations made by Mayorga. To note, Mayorga has also claimed that she was forced to sign an non-disclosure agreement in 2010 to keep the matter hidden and sought at least $200,000 as penalties and damages.
